Grand opening of Caputo's Carol Stream store pushed back to fall

CAROL STREAM – Poor weather conditions and another store's opening has caused a delay in the grand opening of Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets grocery store in Carol Stream.

The store was originally expected to open this summer, but a long and brutal winter and the opening of a Caputo’s store on June 27 in Downers Grove caused the Carol Stream site to push back its opening to the fall, owner Robertino Presta said.

“We’ve always been speculating when we would open,” Presta said. “We never announced an official date.”

Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets currently has locations in Addison, Bloomingdale, Elmwood Park, Hanover Park, Naperville and South Elgin. Its headquarters is in Carol Stream.

The owner said he looks forward to the grand opening of the latest store at 520 E. North Ave., adding that Carol Stream has a good business market.

Although Presta declined to disclose the exact cost of the new store, he said it was a "very substantial investment."

The business will add to Carol Stream’s sales tax revenue, said Bob Glees, the village's community development director. The store is a reuse of a vacant warehouse building.

“I think it’s excellent. It brings an upscale grocery store, business headquarters and distribution center to Carol Stream,” Glees said. “It will add to the synergy of retail use at that location.”

Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Luanne Newman said she’s excited about the grand opening this fall.

“It generates an awareness of the village,” Newman said. “It could help other neighboring businesses as well. As people come into the store, they’ll see other businesses around Caputo’s.”
