BROOKFIELD – After launching its No Roof Left Behind program in January, Licitra Roofing has narrowed down the contestants to just four finalists and is now asking for the public to make the final decision.

The Brookfield roofing company sponsored the local No Roof Left Behind program to give back to the community, according to owner Jonathan Licitra.

"We've been here for almost 30 years and the community around us has supported us, so in these economic hard times, we wanted to support them, because we know there are a lot of families in need," Licitra said.

Through the contest, Licitra is offering one family in the area a free roof ranging from $10,000 to $15,000. The winning household will be one of the following four families; Brookfield residents Jack and Cyndi Teel, The Frisbie family of Countryside, Bonnie Krozel of Western Springs and Westchester residents Scott and Sharon Galloway.

Licitra, who originally received about 30 applicants for the contest, said it's all up to the public now.

"It's kind of like [television show] The Voice; anyone with an email address can log on and vote one time.

"We just want the public to get out there and vote and that's really it," Licitra said.

Voting – done online at www.noroofleftbehind.com or at www.licitraroofing.com – will run through Aug. 8 with the winner announced Aug. 15. As for the actual construction for putting the new roof on, Licitra said that will be up to the recipient's schedule.

While selecting a winner is ultimately up to the public, the final four voiced their appreciation for the opportunity and support for their fellow finalists.

Countryside resident Sheila "Katie" Frisbie said that, even if her family isn't selected, the contest was a great way to promote Licitra Roofing.

"I wish everyone luck," Frisbie said. "I wish everyone won a free roof, but we can't have our cake and eat it too."

Echoing Frisbie, was Cyndi Teel of Brookfield.

Teel said she first learned about the contest in the paper, but never dreamed they'd be selected.

"I'm elated," Teel said.  "We desperately need a new roof … This would really be a blessing for us."

Along the same lines as her fellow finalists, Bonnie Krozel, of Western Springs, said she wishes whoever wins the very best.

"It was a great honor to be picked and nominated by The Treasure Chest," Krozel said. "I do need the new roof, but I hope whoever wins it really deserves it."

Krozel, who said she's the luckiest person because of her family, friends and faith, also thanked Licitra Roofing for offering such a contest.

The best part of this contest is that it's a simple thing being offered to deserving families, according to the fourth finalist Sharon Galloway. She said winning this roof would take a major weight off her and her husband's shoulders.

"It was a hard decision to put our story out there, but Westchester is a town that pulls together and the response that I've gotten … It's been a really humbling experience," Galloway said.

Looking ahead, aside from selecting a winner, the only other task to accomplish is finding other local sponsors, according to Licitra. He said it'd be nice to find businesses willing to donate gift cards for the second, third and fourth place winners.
