SYCAMORE – A 39-year-old Sycamore man accused of injuring a police officer before leading police on a chase last week asked a judge to send him to Elgin Mental Health Center for treatment.
Jeremy A. Scholl, of the 300 block of West Ottawa Street, said in court Monday that he tried to commit suicide before he was arrested and wet himself three times while in jail.
“My thoughts are not normal lately,” Scholl said.
Assistant State’s Attorney Jessica Finley said Scholl received treatment at Elgin before being taken to DeKalb County Jail. Associate Judge John McAdams told Scholl his attorney, Dan Transier, would talk to him about it, which Transier said he plans to do before Scholl’s next court date Thursday.
Scholl remained in jail Monday unable to post $10,000 bail in connection with charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing or eluding, obstructing a police officer, resisting a police officer, and violating his bond. He was also charged Tuesday with disorderly conduct in a separate case.
A Sycamore police officer stopped him about 1 a.m. Wednesday near East Elm and South Locust streets in Sycamore for allegedly failing to signal when it was required. When told to step out of his car, Scholl closed the window and door instead, according to court records.
When the officer opened the door and told Scholl he was going to be arrested, Scholl drove off, scraping the officer’s forearm, court records show. Sycamore police said Scholl blew through four stop signs and turned four times without signaling before the pursuit ended east of Sycamore on Route 64, court records show.
If convicted of the most serious charge, aggravated battery to a police officer, Scholl would face probation or from three to seven years in prison.
