BERWYN

Men robbed at gunpoint in vehicle

Two men were robbed at gunpoint as they sat in a vehicle in the 2700 block of South Harvey Avenue at 1:31 a.m. June 28.

The victims were approached on the passenger side of the vehicle by two men, one of which produced a handgun and demanded the victims put all their belongings in a plastic bag. The suspect without the gun then punched one of the victims in the face before both fled with an iPhone 4 and a wallet containing $25.

Suspicious vehicle leads to charges for marijuana

A report of a suspicious vehicle in the 1600 block of South Harlem Avenue ended in charges of possession of marijuana at 2 a.m June 30.

Police investigating the report found the driver, Alban Gashi, 30, of the 1600 block of South Harlem Avenue, and a female passenger parked in the rear of a residence. Police noticed a strong smell of fresh marijuana in the vehicle and later found a bag of marijuana on the street next to the parked vehicle.

Gashi admitted to police the bag of marijuana was his.

Burglary and theft reports

• A hot water tank, furnace and cabinets were reported stolen from a vacant residence in the 1300 block of South Oak Park Avenue July 1.

• A window air conditioner, a refrigerator and copper tubing connected to floor radiators was reported stolen from an apartment in the 1600 block of South Wesley Avenue July 1. A witness reported seeing someone pouring concrete down the basement drain.

• A Garmin GPS unit was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 6500 block of West 28th Street July 1. The vehicle was unlocked at the time of the theft.

• Two drills and a saw were reported stolen from a vehicle in the area of Oak Park avenue and 32nd Street July 1.

• A child's bicycle was stolen by a group of boys as the mother watched in the area of Wenonah Avenue and 16th Street July 1.

• Jewelry valued at more than $2,500 was reported stolen from a residence in the 2500 block of South Kenilworth Avenue July 1.

• A Soundstream 9-inch touch screen radio was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1600 block of South Euclid Avenue June 30.

• A backpack containing a laptop, medical books and headphones was reported stolen from the open trunk of a vehicle while the victim was unloading groceries in the 6700 block of West 16th Street June 30.

• A green, 1993 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from the area of East Avenue and 28th Street June 30.

• A checkbook was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1600 block of South East Avenue June 29.

• A wallet and car stereo were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2200 block of South Clarence Avenue June 29.

• An air conditioner condenser was reported stolen from outside a home in the 3400 block of South Harvey Avenue June 29.

• A handgun, a rifle and two watches were reported stolen from a residence in the 1600 block of South Harvey Avenue June 28.

DUI

• Charles Allen, 32, of the 500 block of Old English Road, Romeoville, was charged with DUI drugs after stopping for a roadside safety enforcement zone at 12:20 a.m. June 29. Police noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the vehicle.

• Justin D. Evans, 24, of the 1400 block of South Komensky Avenue, Chicago, was charged with two counts of DUI alcohol following a traffic stop for disobeying a stop sign at Scoville Avenue and 21st Street at 2:45 a.m. June 29. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He was also charged with two counts of disobeying a stop sign, not having insurance, speeding and illegal transportation of alcohol.

• John L. Guerrero, 33, of the 2300 block of South Austin Boulevard, Cicero, was charged with DUI alcohol after being stopped at a roadside safety enforcement zone at 11:47 p.m. June 28. Police found three open cans of beer, one of which was empty, inside the vehicle. Guerrero had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath as well. He was also charged with transporting open alcohol, having no insurance and driving while license suspended.

CICERO

Employee forced to open currency exchange at gunpoint

A currency exchange employee was abducted outside of his home after work and driven back to the currency exchange to open it at gunpoint at about 1 a.m. July 4.

The victim, who works at the currency exchange behind 5129 W. 31st St., went into a bar and stayed until about 12:50 a.m. He then took a cab home where he was confronted by a male subject with a handgun who lead him to a mini van where he was placed in the back. The victim was driven back to the currency exchange and forced to open the business but was unable to open the safe.

A second offender showed up and took $500 in coins from a shelf and $2,600 and a cell phone from the victim.

Man robbed on street

A man was robbed of his cell phone and cash while walking in the 4800 block of West 16th Street at 3:30 p.m. June 29.

The victim said he was approached by two subjects who demanded his cell phone. During a physical confrontation one subject took the victim’s wallet from his pocket, removed $40 in cash, then threw the wallet to the ground.

Salon robbed of cash

More than $2,000 in cash was reported stolen from a salon and spa in the 5800 block of West Cermak Road June 28.

Police responded to an alarm shortly after 3 a.m. and found the front glass door of the business broken. The owner said an unknown amount of cash was also taken from another lock box.

Burglary and theft reports

• A black speaker box containing two, 12-inch kicker sub woofers, was reported stolen from a cargo van in the 4700 block of West Cermak Road July 6. Entry was gained through a broken rear window.

• A sub-woofer, kicker amp and Power Acoustic Epicenter were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2500 block of South 57th Court July 5. Entry was gained through a broken window.

• A total of $1,500 in cash and a large quantity of gold jewelry was reported stolen from a residence in the 1800 block of South 49th Avenue July 4. Entry was gained by removing a window air conditioning unit from a kitchen window.

• Two mountain bikes and four amplifiers were reported stolen from a garage in the 1500 block of South 48th Court July 4. A service door had been found forced open.

• Two semi-trailers were reported stolen from the 3400 block of South Cicero Avenue July 1.

• A white, 2000 Ford E150 Econoline, was reported stolen from the 5200 block of West 30th Street July 2.

• A 32-inch television was reported stolen from a residence in the 1400 block of South 48th Court June 30.

• Four Dell notebook computers were reported stolen in the 5900 block of Ogden Avenue June 30. Entry was gained by forcing a door from the office to factory.

• Three phone chargers and an iPad cable were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of South 58th Avenue June 28. Entry was gained through a broken window.
