STERLING – Charles Everett Zimmerman, 93, of Sterling, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at Coventry Living Center. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier.
Everett was born April 23, 1920, in Princeton, the son of Carl and Estella (Powers) Zimmerman. He served in the United States Army in Normandy and in Germany during WWII. He married Mary Lois Rambo on Dec. 1, 1943, in Olympia, Wash. She preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2005.
In 1976, Everett co-founded Grace Bible Baptist Church in Rock Falls, initially serving as pastor. Grace merged with Berean Baptist Church, where he has served and remained a member.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Mike) Maguire of Pleasanton, Calif.; two sons, David (Donna) Zimmerman of Coleta and Kenneth (Candy) Zimmerman of Lake Stevens, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Berean Baptist Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Roger Carlson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Princeton.
