Little Italy staple Pompei opens doors in Westmont

WESTMONT – Tommy Davino was all smiles during the ribbon cutting of new Westmont restaurant Pompei Little Italy.

The family owned and operated Pompei Little Italy opened its third location in late March, holding a ceremonial induction into the Westmont Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau on April 1.

Pizzas will be made to order and assembled in front of each customer, Davino said. The menu will also include healthier alternatives for customers by switching to sea salt, organic specials and a gluten-free menu, according to Davino.

Davino’s great-grandfather opened the first Pompei location in 1909 on Taylor Street in Chicago’s Little Italy neighborhood. The restaurant was named after a community church and originally started as a small bakery, only serving bread and cheese pizza.

In addition to the storefront on Taylor Street, the family owns and operates a Pompei location in Orland Park. But Davino said he desired a location that was closer to home.

“We live in Oak Brook, so we wanted something close,” Davino said. “We came across this store and it was too good to pass up. It’s a great opportunity and I think it will be a nice compliment to Westmont.”
