A Coal City man has been sentenced to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a reckless homicide charge stemming from the death of a 16-year-old passenger who was traveling in a vehicle with him last year when he got into an accident.
Matthew C. Moser, 20, of Coal City pleaded guilty in February to reckless homicide.
On Feb. 1, 2013, Alyssa Nicole Swyndro, a junior at Coal City High School, died when the pick-up truck she was riding in left Whitetie Road, a quarter-mile west of Broadway Street. The vehicle struck a culvert and then rolled into a tree.
At the time Moser was taken to the emergency room and once released he was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence resulting in death, driving under the combination of alcohol and drugs, driving too fast for conditions, unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor, unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
