COUNTY – In an effort to increase the efficiency of apprehending offenders with outstanding Lake County warrants, the Lake County Sheriff's Office has assigned three deputies to the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
On March 7 two deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office warrants division and one deputy from the highway patrol division were sworn in by the U.S. Marshals Service as Task Force Officers. While operating as TFO's, the deputies are able to arrest fugitives across state lines. This collaboration of efforts is necessary in keeping Lake County safe, according to a news release from Lake County Sheriff's Office.
"The citizens expect us to keep them safe and partnering with U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force helps to add boots on the street, as well as intelligence, and another perspective. Thus, we are all safer when we work together," said Lake County Sheriff Mark C. Curran Jr.
Chief Inspector Jason Grunwald said, "The United States Marshals Service welcomes the Lake County Sheriff's Office as the newest member of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. The task force will focus on the removal of violent fugitives from the neighborhoods of Lake County."
Chief John Byrne said, "We are proud to be part of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force as a key part of working together to reduce crime and get offenders with violent warrants off the streets of Lake County."
