Six-year prison term in meth case

SYCAMORE – A 37-year-old Chicago man who police said shipped more than 400 grams of methamphetamine from Arizona to DeKalb is headed to prison.

Daniel N. Stroz, of the 2100 block of North Point Street, was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison after pleading guilty to an amended charge of possession of between 15 and 100 grams of methamphetamine. Prosecutors dropped more serious possession charges in exchange for the guilty plea.

DeKalb police said a U.S. postal inspector found a suspicious package on Oct. 30, 2012, sent from Scottsdale, Ariz., to the 400 block of South Fifth Street in DeKalb.

Surveillance video showed Stroz paying to ship the package in Scottsdale, court records show.

Police found the package at the DeKalb residence, which contained more than 400 grams of methamphetamine, court records show. The package was shipped to Joseph P. Hosey, 37, of DeKalb, who pleaded guilty to the same charge as Stroz on Nov. 7 and was sentenced to three years in prison.

Stroz will receive credit for serving about a year and 4 months in DeKalb County Jail, court records show.
