BOLINGBROOK – Three new restaurants are headed to Bolingbrook, all under one roof.
Oberweis Dairy got unanimous approval from the Bolingbrook Village Board Tuesday night to construct a 6,220-square-foot development that would include the dairy's popular ice cream shop, a pizza place and a specialty burger restaurant in one complex.
The development is proposed on 1.28 acres at 860 E. Boughton Road, just east of Interstate 355. The land is currently undeveloped and sits on an outlot just south of Costco.
In addition to Oberweis' ice cream shop, the complex would include a Connie's Pizza and That Burger Joint.
Oberweis launched That Burger Joint in 2012 and now has locations in Naperville, Glen Ellyn and Skokie. Connie's role in the development is a partnership between the two franchises.
Joe Oberweis, president and CEO of Oberweis LLC, said the development is the second of its kind for the company. The first opened in Glen Ellyn last summer.
"[The three restaurants] complement each other well, they don't clash much," Oberweis said. "Connie's offers salads, pizza, beer and vegetarian options while we do ice cram, burgers, chicken, hot dogs and fries."
Oberweis said the Bolingbrook site was chosen as the second location for the business model due to its proximity to Interstate 355, high traffic, visibility and the success of the existing Oberweis ice cream shop at 230 Weber Road.
"We've been in Bolingbrook for many, many years. It's one of our very oldest continious operating stores," he said. "That's a good store for us."
The development would also include a food court, two outdoor eating areas and a drive-thru lane.
Oberweis Dairy sought approval of a special use permit, final development plan and ordinance variances for the development, all of which were unanimously approved. The developer also was granted late business hours, until 11 p.m., on Saturday evenings.
