Police: Westmont man charged with armed robbery of Lisle Aldi

WESTMONT – A Westmont man has been charged in the armed robbery of a Lisle Aldi grocery story.

Dean McKenna, 25, of 35 W. 66th St., is being held on $350,000 bond for allegedly pointing a pellet gun at a store clerk at the Aldi, Route 53 and Maple Avenue, at 2:35 p.m. Jan. 20, police said.

McKenna allegedly took $1,046 from a drawer and fled the scene in his vehicle, according to police.

"The allegations against Mr. McKenna are outrageous," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert B. Berlin said in a release. "Robbing someone who is trying to make an honest living at gunpoint will not be tolerated and will be met with the full force of the law. I would like to thank the Lisle Police Department for their outstanding police work on this case as well as Assistant State’s Attorney Bethany Jackson for her efforts."

The Lisle Police Department's investigation led to McKenna's arrest on Wednesday, the release said.

He was also found with heroin and drug paraphernalia in his possession and was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, one count of battery and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

His next appearance in court will be March 3.
