Police file felony charges against teens for Homecoming vandalism at RBHS

RIVERSIDE – The Riverside Police Department announced Wednesday they have filed felony charges against two teens allegedly responsible for vandalism at Riverside Brookfield High School during a traditional Homecoming event known as the "senior prank."

Frad C. Johnson, 18, of North Riverside and a 17-year-old juvenile, also of North Riverside, were charged with felony criminal damage to state supported property. Both teens are current students at RB. Police said the 17-year-old student was charged as an adult and was living in Brookfield until recently.

Police said they have concluded their investigation into the incident, which occurred around 12:41 a.m. Oct. 2.

Police were called to the school for a noise complaint and found about 100 students at the campus throwing toilet paper rolls and spraying shaving cream. Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel said both acts were harmless and a traditional feature at the school during Homecoming Week called the senior prank.

Initially, several subjects were seen fleeing the scene when police arrived, the department reported. Police said students who remained at the school were only participating in the papering of the school and using shaving cream to write slogan in the grass and on the sidewalk, neither of which caused permanent damage.

Officers later discovered four live chickens in a child's crib at the school's doors on Ridgewood Road. Several pieces of furniture and an old mattress were also found near the doors. Door locks were damaged with expanding foam, and the school, surrounding trees and sidewalk were found to have been spray painted.

Additionally, police said they found pictures depicting Internet pornography, which had some handwritten notes on the photos referring to staff members at RB.

According to police, damages were estimated at about $3,500 last week.
