BENSENVILLE – School District 2 Superintendent received an award from the Illinois State Board of Education.
James Stelter, a Glen Ellyn resident, was recognized by the Those Who Excel Awards Program. The annual award honors people who have made outstanding contributions to public and nonpublic elementary and secondary education. A selection committee representing statewide education organizations selects award recipients.
The district was also an early adopter of the Common Core State Standards in 2010, and one of only two Race to the Top districts in DuPage County.
Stelter received the award for his accomplishments in student learning and achievement, closing the achievement gap for at-risk students, educational leadership in school reform initiatives, strategic planning and financial acumen.
He and Amy Walsh, a teacher for District 2 nominated for Teacher of the Year, will be recognized at a banquet Oct. 19 in Bloomington.
