Pair of restaurants opens in Westmont

Neat Kitchen and Bar, Sweet & Savory Spot add flavor to eateries

WESTMONT – Two new restaurants have popped up in Westmont.

Neat Kitchen and Bar and The Sweet & Savory Spot are open for business along Cass Avenue in downtown Westmont.

The new businesses give Westmont a total of 94 restaurants, said Larry Forssberg, executive director of the Westmont Chamber of Commerce.

“The [new] restaurants are going to expand the scope of dining,” Forssberg said. “Pick a cuisine, and you can find it. You can literally dine around the world in Westmont.”

They also join Jimmy’s Island Grille, a seafood restaurant at 800 E. Ogden Ave., that opened in May.

Michael Cairo, co-owner of Neat Kitchen and Bar, described his new business as “upscale casual bar and grill.”

The restaurant, at 246 N. Cass Ave., opened for business July 10.

“People are liking the atmosphere, food and service. We have an in-house butcher and fresh ingredients,” said Cairo, adding the only thing in the freezer is ice cream.

Although Cairo, of Indian Head Park, and co-owner Jason Van Lente, a Westmont resident, consider the establishment a restaurant first and a bar second, it has a late-night liquor license.

“If people are coming in, we will use it,” Cairo said. “The plan is to have the kitchen open the entire time.”
