Reports: Woman hit by train in La Grange committed suicide

LA GRANGE – A 25-year-old Chicago woman was struck and killed by a train in La Grange July 6 in what was later determined a suicide, according to media reports.

The woman was struck by a 70-car freight train traveling east to Chicago at 9:55 p.m., BNSF Railway spokesperson Andy Williams said. Williams could not confirm the exact location of the death, but other reports said it occurred near the Stone Avenue Station.

The woman was pronounced dead at 10:47 p.m. July 6 at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, and an autopsy later determined that the death was a suicide, reports said, citing the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

La Grange Police Chief Mike Holub said the case was handled solely by BNSF police. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately be reached for comment.

The incident comes less than three months after a 22-year-old La Grange man was killed by a train April 11 in what was also determined a suicide.
