DIXON – C. Dennis Nielsen, 80, of Dixon, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wis. He owned and operated Midwest Cement in Dixon before retiring.
He was born May 16, 1933, in Tyler, Minn., the son of Clarence and Edna (Nielsen) Nielsen. He married Rosalie Olsen on Sept. 27, 1953, in Franklin Park. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2006. Dennis served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon; Dixon Elks Lodge Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 779; Dixon Lions Club; Dixon Moose Lodge 727; American Legion Post 12; Dixon Masonic Lodge; and the Shriners.
Survivors include one son, Douglas (Susan) Nielsen of Polo; three daughters, Debbi (Jeff Reed) Mick of Polo, Denise Lahm of Lanark, and Stacey Nielsen of Dixon; special friend and companion, Joyce Volk of Dixon; eight grandchildren, Heather (Tim) Pair, Garret (Carli) Mick, Samantha (Keihin) Ketchum, Jennifer (Randy) Garman, Michael (Jamie) Nielsen, Katie (Aaron Smith) Nielsen, Landon Lahm, and Mackenzie Nielsen; and eight great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Tyler, Keilee, Rosalie, Brynlee, Hayden, Keegan, and Shaylie.
He also was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert Mick.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Frank Langholf, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
Memorials have been established to Home of Hope and Immanuel Lutheran Church, both of Dixon.
