SYCAMORE – Visitors to Johnny's Charhouse were forced to find a new lunch spot Monday after learning the restaurant at 1950 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, was closed.
Johnny's was open under its normal hours until 7 p.m. Sunday, but the next day, a handwritten sign on the front doors said, "I'm sorry but we are closed. Thanks."
John Pappas, owner of Pappas Development and relative of one of the restaurant's owners, Nick Pappas, said he was surprised to learn the establishment was closed Monday. He is a former owner of the restaurant, but has not been involved for eight years, he said.
The restaurant, one of the area's few steakhouse-style restaurants, was touted as the "home of certified Angus beef" and featured entrees ranging from $14.95 to $25.95 in price.
Efforts to reach Johnny's current owners, Nick Pappas and George Tsiftilis, on Monday were not successful. A woman who answered the phone at the restaurant Monday morning declined to comment.
