DOWNERS GROVE – Westbrook Market closed its Downers Grove location this month in the Meadowbrook Shopping Center, 2065 63rd St.
Owner Joe Kumkoski could not be reached for comment, but a manager at the grocery's Westmont location said only the Downers Grove store was closing.
The Meadowbrook Shopping Center was purchased this year by Frontline Real Estate Partners through bankruptcy proceedings of the strip mall's previous owners, Qualteq Inc.
According to the DuPage County Recorder of Deeds office, Frontline took possesion of the deed April 1.
"We absolutely plan to do substantial (building) improvements and we think we can take an important asset in the community and make it better," Frontline President and CEO Mitchell Kahn said.
Kahn said the firm is "looking at all options" for what kind of tenant they would like to see replace the grocery.
Kahn would not confirm the purchase price, but according to a Crain's Chicago Business story, the 190,000-square-foot shopping center was bought by Frontline at auction for about $4.7 million.
