LOMBARD — Because of their fundraising leadership, Lombard couple Jim and Nicole Scalzo were recently recognized as MS Champions by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society — Greater Illinois Chapter.
Along with two other people, the Scalzos will be included in many of the marketing and promotional materials distributed in advance of this year's WalkMS event where they will share their personal experiences and stories. Nicole was diagnosed with MS in 2008.
Originally, Jim was selected as an MS Champion, thanks to his fundraising efforts and work as a caregiver for his wife, but later Nicole was also invited to participate.
"My wife Nicole puts as much or more time into fundraising and planning as I do," he said. "It's an honor to be in this role for the MS Society, but it's the icing on the cake that we get to be involved in the program as a couple."
This year's WalkMS event is scheduled for May 5, and the Scalzos are fundraising for the fourth year with their team Nicoli and the Cannoli Crew.
Jim Scalzo is also running for the Lombard Park District's Board of Commissioners for the April 9 election.
