PRINCETON — Shirley J. Burden, 78, of Princeton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Colonial Hall Rehab and Nursing Center in Princeton.
Born Oct. 9, 1934, in Bureau to Harold E. and Ruby A. (Decker) Steele, she married Arthur Thomas Burden. He died June 4, 1978.
She grew up in Bureau and attended Hall High School. She was a cook at the Ranch House for many years.
Surviving are 10 children, Kelly Burden of Davenport, Iowa, Kristie (Bob) Smith of Malden, Ann (Cecil) Altizer of Tiskilwa, Leonard (Michelle) Burden of Bureau, Linda Burden of Henry, Cindy (David) Bornsheuer of Buda, Gloria (Virgil) Deffenbaugh of Bureau, Harold (Melina) Burden of Buda, Jim (Rhonda) Burden of Granville and Kevin (Angie) Burden of Tiskilwa; 31 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and six siblings, Norma (John) Camp of Princeton, Janice (Dick) Klieber of Ladd, Johnny (Joyce) Steele of DePue, Kathy (John) Zarins of Wisconsin, Ronnie Steele of Spring Valley and Sharon (Jim Hurd) Steele.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, three brothers and three grandchildren, Robert Smith III, Marsha Sue Altizer and Tonya Marie Hurd. Also preceding was her companion, Dallas Williams.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton, with Pastor Jack Stites officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
