WESTMONT — As an athlete much of her life, Amy Goebbert knows the impact sports can have on the human body.
Goebbert is the co-owner of the new Theracore Physical Therapy clinic in Westmont, which opened earlier this month and is beginning to treat patients of all ages in not only rehabilitation and preventive therapy, but in health and wellness as well.
A doctor of physical therapy for 12 years, Goebbert, a Clarendon Hills native who attended Hinsdale Central High School and played sports at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, said she put aside sports years ago due to knee injuries, instead deciding to focus on physical therapy and the treatment of such injuries.
She opened her first Theracore location in Lockport in 2008 and saw the opportunity to expand in Westmont as sort of a homecoming.
"I grew up in Clarendon Hills, and my husband and I lived in Downers Grove for awhile, so opening a place here in Westmont is like home to me," Goebbert said.
Theracore, 350 E. Ogden Ave., will celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. April 4.
Goebbert said what sets Theracore apart from other physical therapy clinic is that her focus is one-on-one personalized care. The location has two doctors, a massage therapist and a dietician on staff to treat the needs of patients recovering from injury or surgery.
While her staff treats patients from ages 3 to 93, Goebbert says she is seeing an increase in sports-related injuries among younger patients. With that, she believes injury awareness, especially that of concussions, is also increasing.
"We are seeing a lot more people who are taking the time for concussion treatment, and coaches and trainers are looking out for it," she said. "It isn't just a 'sleep it off injury' anymore. Athletes are aware of the impacts, and are making sure they are recovered before going back to play again."
