Saturday will be a special day at Downers Grove South, and not just because the Mustangs welcome state powerhouse Warren for a non-conference boys basketball battle.

That same night, seven new members will be inducted in the DGS Hall of Fame at 5:30 p.m. in a ceremony preceding the varsity boys basketball game at 6 p.m.

Three former student-athletes will be inducted.

Jim Moyar

A 1979 graduate, Jim Moyar ran cross country and track and was named MVP in track. He was a conference champion and set the school record in the 880-yard dash, and finished fifth in the state in the same event.  He went on to run cross country and track at Notre Dame and was team captain, earning four varsity letters. He also helped set a Notre Dame record in the 4 x 1,600 relay and qualified for the NCAA championship meet.

Jennifer Buckley

Jennifer (Gabel) Buckley, a 1991 graduate, was a four-year varsity letter-winner in girls basketball, was a three-year captain and was named MVP in 1991. She was a three-time West Suburban all-conference selection. Buckley was also a three-year starter in girls volleyball.  She went on to serve as captain and an NIIC all-conference player at Aurora University from 1992 to 1995, and holds several women's basketball records there. She is currently director and associate professor in the School of Health and Physical Education at Aurora University.

Egle Staisiunaite

Egle Staisiunaite is one of the most decorated athletes in South history. The 2007 graduate was a state qualifier in three track events her freshman year, and won six state medals in her career, including state championships in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles in 2007, a year she was honored as Gatorade Illinois Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Her track career continued at Wisconsin, where she was a multiple NCAA national qualifier. An international track competitor, she represented Lithuania at the European Championships and the 2012 London Olympics. She will serve as the new head coach for girls track in the upcoming season.

Coaches

Coaches Ouida Gabel and Phil Fox will also be inducted. Gabel will be honored posthumously. She established the girls basketball program at South and coached the team from 1973 to 1990, capturing four regional titles and six seasons of 20 or more wins. Fox coached in the football program at South for 24 years and baseball for 23 years. As head baseball coach, he compiled a record of 279-150 and won six conference titles. He was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2007.

Friends of the Program

Richard and Pat Costante, Sr., will receive the Friends of the Program award. Dick (who is deceased) and Pat Costante, former owners of Jakes Pizza in Lisle, were tireless friends of multiple sports at South from 1984 to 1998 and supported team causes with their time, money and food service. They provided various team dinners, award banquets and celebrations, and funded the Costante scholarship for a male and female athlete each year until 2010.
