A Darien man accused of hitting a teen with his car in February was convicted Thursday of a minor traffic citation, fined and sentenced to community service, according to media reports.
Timothy Hagan, 40, of the 3000 block of Drover Lane in Darien, was found guilty of failure to yield to a pedestrian on a sidewalk after hitting 14-year-old Hunter Himes of Downers Grove on Feb. 26, according to reports.
Hagan was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Hagan was turning right on southbound Lemont Road off of Beller Road in Darien on Feb. 26 when he struck Himes, whom Hagan said he did not see, while he rode his bicycle.
The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District said Himes had to be extracted from beneath the vehicle, and he was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with life support measures underway at that time.
Himes was later airlifted by helicopter to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
Terra Idhe, Hunter’s mother, told the Tribune this week that her son’s condition has worsened in recent weeks and there is doubt he will survive the accident. He sustained a traumatic brain injury in the accident.
