Addison Trail High School gave congratulations to Viviana Hernandez, the school’s October recipient of District 88’s Best recognition.
Hernandez, a senior, has a 4.675 grade point average and is ranked in the top 1 percent of her class. Her transcript reflects several honors and Advanced Placement courses, as she has taken nine AP and 10 honors classes throughout her high school career. Her academic accomplishments have earned her many honors, including the Distinct Honor Roll, National Honor Society and AP Scholar with Distinction, according to the school district.
“Viviana has been an amazing example here at Addison Trail,” said English teacher Patricia Subers. “She continually strives to surpass her goals, and she does so. From her freshman year through her senior year, she has modeled the routines, positive attitude, understanding, analysis and application of a student who is and will be a success in the future.”
Science teacher Anthony Cirrincione agreed.
“Hernandez is, without a doubt, one of the finest young adults I have met in my tenure at Addison Trail,” Cirrincione said. “She is an extremely hardworking, dedicated young woman, who has big goals, dreams and aspirations. Having her in the classroom is an absolute pleasure – she is very kind, always polite, asks questions when she needs clarity and participates all the time. She is definitely one of District 88's best.”
Social studies teacher Laura Magnavite said Hernandez stands out in class because of her strong work ethic.
“Hernandez was one of the most engaged, conscientious and enthusiastic students I've ever had the pleasure to teach,” Magnavite said. “She wanted to excel in her first AP class and demonstrated the skills and commitment required to see that happen. In the days before a resource period was built into our students' schedules, Hernandez devoted time before and after school, as well as during her lunch periods, to ask about readings, essays and projects. She never shied away from asking questions in class either, and that confidence made her a role model to her peers.”
Along with her academic excellence, Hernandez also has been involved in several Addison Trail activities and extracurricular programs. She is a four-year student council member and the Sergeant of Arms this year, as well as a member of Lettermen Club, International Club, Blazer Pride PBIS Committee Core, Homecoming Committee, Freshmen Mentoring, Student Advisory Team, Key Club, Psychology Club and Spanish Club.
Athletically, she has participated in softball, track and has been a three-year varsity volleyball player. For the past two years, Hernandez has been part of a pilot student mentoring program for struggling freshmen called Second Helping, and this winter, she will go to Washington, D.C., as a member of Addison Trail’s Close Up student group to witness the presidential inauguration.
Outside of school, Hernandez has been part of many community programs and events, including Go Pink or Go Home Breast Cancer Awareness, Kiwanis Peanut Day, Knights of Columbus, Park Cleanup, Feed My Starving Children, Indian Trail Fun Fair, Indian Trail Volleyball Camp, Italian Fall Festival, Toys for Tots, Addison Trail Volleyball Kiddie Camp, organizing Senior Awards and helping at St. Joseph’s as an assistant. She plans to volunteer at the new Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare in Addison this winter.
Hernandez plans to attend UCLA where she plans to study clinical psychology.
