ELGIN – Elgin Community College’s Spartan Terrace Restaurant, a fine-dining venue run by students of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality program, reopened Sept. 12.
Spartan terrace, located in Building I of the Culinary Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. most Tuesdays and Thursdays (call 847-214-7382 to verify); and dinner is served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. most Mondays and Wednesdays.
Instructors supervise students as they perfect their culinary and service skills in preparation for careers in the hospitality and food service industry.
Taste and the presentation of food are integral parts of the education process.
The menus feature a selection of freshly prepared soups, salads, small plates, entrees and desserts.
Lunch service includes options like Maple-Ginger Glazed Salmon, Eggplant Parmesan, and Pan-Seared Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast.
Dinner service, when wine is served, includes Southern Pork Tenderloin, Grilled Lamb Chops with Mint Tzatziki, and Provencal Summer Vegetable Gratin.
Several dishes feature fresh, organic produce from ECC's rooftop terrace gardens.
