BATAVIA – The Attic Christian Arts Center was recognized recently with platinum awards for all six of the center’s faith-based songs at The Rainbow Connection Dance Competition at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora. This was the first competition for The Attic and its three competitive dance teams, under the direction of Aimee Healy and Andrea Leith, since its opening in September.
Additionally, in their division, they received a first place overall in the 12 to 14 age category for a small group, a second place overall in the 9 to 11 age category for a large group, and a third place overall in the 9 to 11 age category for a small group, and a judge’s special award was given to the 12 to 14 small group team.
“My 11-year-old dancers and I have been very concerned with the lyrics, costumes and moves that seem to have become acceptable in our world today,” said Tracy Smith, owner of The Attic. “Our children should have choices allowing them to stay true to their faith and values.”
The Attic offers competitive and performance youth dance teams, dance and dance fitness classes, art classes and various other workshops and events with instructors committed to guarding hearts and minds, according to a news release. They currently have 13 instructors choosing to hold more than 30 classes and camps there this summer for youth and adults.
The Attic is located at 26 N. Island Ave. in downtown Batavia. For more information, visit www.theatticbatavia.com.
