Mr. Jan R. Gilligan, 61, of Morris, Ill., passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, June 12, 2012, in his home.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, Ill., where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15. Pastor Erik Gauss of the Cross Lutheran Church in Yorkville, Ill., will officiate. Interment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Compton.
Born Aug. 30, 1950, in Joliet, Ill., the son of Russell and Mabel Germain Gilligan, Jan married the love of his life, Janice K. Ganz, on June 22, 1974, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Compton, Ill. He entered the employment of Commonwealth Edison as a nuclear operator in 1970, at Dresden Station in Goose Lake Township, Grundy County, Ill., and was employed for 32 years until his retirement from Exelon in 2003.
He enjoyed traveling in the Middle West and camping with his family. He loved to visit with his many friends and family and spend time with his two grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of almost 38 years, Janice, and their three children, Sean (Monica Novak) Gilligan of Chicago, Erin Gilligan of Coal City, Ill., and Bryan Gilligan of Morris; two grandchildren, Finn & Maeve Gilligan; his mother, Mabel Gilligan; a sister, Peggy (Tony) Martin of Lockport, Ill.; a brother, James (Janice) Gilligan of Shorewood, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Donna Ganz-Bauer of West Brooklyn, Ill.; along with several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father; one brother, Jon Gilligan; and his father-in-law, Elmer Ganz.
Preferred forms of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Jan’s memory to Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice or United Cerebral Palsy of the Illinois Prairieland.
