ROCK FALLS – Georgia A. Nehrkorn, 69, of Rock Falls, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at her home after a long struggle with cancer.
Georgia was born Oct. 3, 1942, in Ottawa, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Flood) Ristau. At the age of 2, her father was killed in France during World War II. She married Fred Nehrkorn on April 16, 1961, in Sterling.
Georgia owned her own beauty salon, worked for the Rock Falls school system, and finished her career in management for AT&T. Georgia enjoyed her retirement in Florida, and returned to Rock Falls for the last year of her life. She was a 20-year survivor of breast cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; one son, Randy (Tammy) Nehrkorn of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Marcy (David) Busch of Portland, Ore.; one brother, John Ristau of Sebring, Fla.; one sister, Colleen Farmer of Rock Falls; two grandchildren, Audra Murphy and Kyrie Lagos; and four stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Billy; and one sister, Kathy.
The family would like to thank the many friends and family for their support, with a special thank you to Stan Wenger, Lola Williamson, Tammy Nehrkorn, Don and Judy Nehrkorn, and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
A memorial gathering will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private burial will be at a later date at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
