JOHNSBURG – Firefighters responded Sunday to a report of a van on fire in the Johnsburg Walmart parking lot.
The driver of a 1994 Ford van was experiencing problems with his vehicle and after smelling something “funny” decided to pull over, McHenry Township Fire Protection District Mike Majercik said.
When the driver looked under the hood, he found smoke and fire, Majercik said.
The driver and his family exited the vehicle safely and the fire department was called just before 3 p.m.
By the time firefighters arrived at 3801 Running Brook Farm, flames were rolling through the vehicle, Majercik said.
The van was considered a total loss. No other vehicles were parked close by or damaged, Majercik said.
