No one hurt after car crashes into Johnny's Charhouse

SYCAMORE – An elderly woman crashed her car Thursday into the back section of Johnny's Charhouse.

Police and fire officials responded to the crash at 11:53 a.m., after receiving reports of a car going over the curb and crashing through a window.

When firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle sticking out of the building's south end.

No one was injured in the car or the restaurant, but the driver was trapped in her car.

Sycamore firefighters were able to clear debris around the car and free the driver by 12:13 p.m.

The driver was checked  by paramedics but she was not transported to a hospital for additional treatment.

Sycamore Police Lt. Darrell Johnson said he's seen cases in the past where elderly drivers have accidentally hit the gas pedal, thinking the car was either in park or reverse when it was actually in drive.

When asked if that was the case Thursday, Johnson said it was hard to confirm.

"She can't really remember," he said. "But that's what we determined."

No charges have been filed against the driver, Johnson said.

Sycamore Assistant Fire Chief Marc Doty said there were a few customers in the section of the restaurant at the time of the crash, but they reported no injuries.

Johnny's Charhouse, 1905 DeKalb Ave., remained open after the crash.

Workers said the back seating section likely will be closed until repairs are completed.
