PROPHETSTOWN – Marvel E. Maxfield, 84, of Sterling, formerly of Prophetstown, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Coventry Living Center, Sterling. Marvel worked for most of her life as a homemaker, but enjoyed working at Eclipse Lawn Mower Co. and the art gallery in Prophetstown.

She was born April 11, 1927, in Hooppole, the daughter of Willard Wolf and Belva Goembel. She married Robert Maxfield in May 1954, in Hooppole. Her beloved husband died April 1, 1995. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Prophetstown.

Survivors include her two sons, Rory (Linda) Maxfield of Hoffman Estates and Joel (Fe) Maxfield of Woodbury, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Suzanne Maxfield of Olney, Barb Wolf of Hooppole and Deanna (Richard) Bails of Harvel; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her special neighbors and friends, Dick and Debbie Enright of Prophetstown.

Marvel also was preceded in death by her parents; her only brother, Quentin; two brothers-in-law, James Maxfield and Gene Maxfield; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Maxfield.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Andy Ploenzke officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown.

A memorial has been established to First Congregational Church, Prophetstown.
