OREGON – Ogle County fourth- and fifth-graders attended the ninth annual University of Illinois Extension, Ag Awareness Days on Sept. 9 at the Ogle County Fairgrounds.
Workshops and presenters included: “Harvesting Honey,” by Jeff Ludwig of Byron; “Horses On the Farm,” by Tim and Jennifer Kaffenbarger of Byron; “Magic of Modern Equipment,” by Bill Herwig from Holland and Sons, Dixon; “Navigating the Rows,” by Ogle County Ag in the Country coordinator, Melinda Charbonneau; “Doctoring the Barnyard,” by Dr. Bob Ebbesmeyer, New Hope Vet Clinic, German Valley; “Bioenergy,” by Stephenson County Conservation and Ag Partners educator, Martha Ebbesmeyer; “Fishing for Food,” by Illinois Department of Natural Resources fish conservationist, Ken Clodfelter; “Insect Heroes and Villains,” led by Ogle County Master Gardener, Phil Bratta; “The Shear Delight of Sheep,” by Earl Hagemeyer of Esmond, Don Ebersole of Polo, and Leroy Hayes and Loran Marceau of Forreston; “Bite into Beef,” by Annette Martin and family, Ogle County Beef Association; “Biotechnology,” by Lucas Allen, program adviser; “Alpaca Farming,” by Mary Ianni and Tim Kamholz of Capron; “Water … Pure and Simple,” by Johnna Jennings, University of Illinois Extension educator; and “Layers of Land,” by Peggy Doty, University of Illinois Extension educator.
