Mr. Donald J. " Don " Carey, 65, of Morris, Ill., passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, Sept. 8, 2011, in his home.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 4 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 8 p.m., at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home, Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, Ill. The Rev. James Steele will officiate.
Inurnment with full military honors conducted by the Morris Color Guard will occur in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill., at a later date.
Born Dec. 26, 1945, in Morris, he was the son of Donald F. & Anna L. Mack Carey. He received his education in the Morris schools and graduated from Morris Community High School with the Class of 1963.
Mr. Carey proudly served his country in the U. S. Army, having enlisted on Feb. 7, 1966, and received his honorable discharge from active duty on Feb. 6, 1968.
Don was an active sponsor and individual who embraced the AA philosophy. He was an avid Chicago and Notre Dame sports fan.
Mr. Carey received his three degrees and became a Master Mason with Cedar Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M. in Morris. He was also a member of the Bloomington Consistory and Mohammed Temple of the Shrine in Peoria, Ill.
Surviving are his two loving daughters, Angela (David) Wagner of Aurora, Ill., and Monica (Anthony) Graziani of St. John, Ind.; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob and Mia Graziani; two Sisters, Susan Carey of Morris and Betty (Donald) Brown of Batavia, Ohio; one brother, Jim (Kathy) Carey of Peoria, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fred Carey; and one nephew, Scott Carey.
Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Don's memory to the Army Emergency Relief Fund.
