Peter Roumeliotis, M.D., has been appointed to the Board of Directors at Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers. He replaces Dr. John Scala, who has served on the board for one year and is relocating out of state.
Dr. Roumeliotis is an internal medicine physician with a full-time practice in Morris.
He joined the medical staff at Morris Hospital in 1993 and has served in a number of leadership roles over the past 18 years, including president of the medical staff from 1996-97, chief of internal medicine and chairman of the utilization review, medical records and bylaws committees.
He currently serves as medical director at Morris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Rivershores Care Center in Marseilles and Walnut Grove Village in Morris.
Dr. Roumeliotis received his medical degree from University of Patras, Greece, and completed his residency at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center in Chicago.
“Dr. Roumeliotis is well respected among the medical staff and has always been an avid supporter of Morris Hospital,” says Bruce Baker, board chairman. “The board welcomes his leadership, experience and unique insight from a physician’s perspective.”
Dr. Roumeliotis says he is looking forward to serving on the Morris Hospital board.
“Morris Hospital is important to me,” says Dr. Roumeliotis. “We have an awesome medical staff that provides quality and compassionate medical care. Over the years, I’ve seen the organization grow from a community hospital to a medical center that offers many services you would expect in a larger hospital setting.
“Yet all of us in healthcare are faced with challenging times.
“I’m hopeful that we can stay ahead of the challenges by working collaboratively with the board, administration and physicians.”
A resident of Shorewood, Dr. Roumeliotis and his wife, Patty, have three children — 18-year-old triplets Paul, Felicia and Charlie, all freshmen at Elmhurst College.
The Board of Directors at Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers is made up of eleven volunteer members.
