Down by one run in the top of the seventh inning, the Minooka softball team scored four runs to get a 4-1 win at Marist. Three of those runs came via the home run, as Payton Laczynski hit a two-run homer wile Sara Novak had a solo shot.
Jackie Lilek was 1-for-3 with a single and a stolen base for the Indians, while Lindsey Fenner was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Kassie Marsala finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Lilek was Minooka's starting pitcher. She improved her record to 2-2 by throwing 7 innings and giving up 1 earned run. She gave up five hits and finished with 5 strikeouts while only walking 1.
The Indians' sophomore team beat Marist 12-6. Ali Bagley was 2-for-3 with a double, Rachel May was 3-for-5 with an RBI and 2 stolen bases, Caroline Brown was 2-for-5 with 4 RBI and Kelly Holstine was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.
Kelsey Smith finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI while Marissa Burns went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles.
Minooka's freshman team defeated Marist 6-4. Sarah Schimanski had a home run for the Indians, while Erin Rossetto was 4-for-5. Amoree Harkness started on the mound and got the win.

Alison Serena was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and an RBI for GSW. Paige Lardi went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Allison Perkins finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. Abby Horrie was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and 2 RBI.
Katie Gretz took the loss, allowing 9 hits while finishing with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. She's now 3-4 on the season.
"We did a good job starting very early on offense and scoring 5 runs. They did a good job hitting the ball in the fourth inning, and got ahead of us," GSW coach Michelle Lardi said. "We fought until the seventh, but were unable to come up with the run we needed."

Coley Baker finished 4-for-4 with a run scored and 6 RBI for Seneca, who finished with 14 hits to improve to 12-3 and 1-1 in the Interstate Eight West with the five-inning victory. Miranda Shanks was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored while Alanna Viken finished 2-for-3 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI. Miranda Hougas was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI and Melissa Jebens was 1-for-1 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Nicole Pihl got the win, going 3 innings and giving up 2 hits. She walked 1 and had 2 strikeouts.
"The girls hit the ball hard all night," Seneca coach Dan Stecken said. "It was a nice team win."
Lisle 12,
Coal City 1
Lisle scored 5 runs in the first inning off Coal City pitcher Allie Budde. The only run for the Lady Coalers was a Rachel Burroughs home run in the bottom of the second inning. Burroughs had the only two Coal City hits and finished 2-for-3.
Budde gave up 8 runs in 2 innings of work, although only 3 were earned. Morgan Youskevtch threw the final 5 innings and gave up 4 runs, 2 earned.
Megan Quirk started on the mound and got the win, finishing with 3 strikeouts.

The Comets fell to 1-9 and 0-1 in the Interstate Eight West. Courtni Wiborg took the loss, falling to 1-9 on the season.

Sarah Butterfield was 1-for-3 for the Lady Trojans. Tori Grzincic and Kate Pfeifer each went 2-for-4 while Claire Elsey finished 1-for-3.
Dwight is now 9-1 and 1-0 in the Interstate Eight West.

Morris 5
Morris lost its first game of the season, giving up 7 unearned runs while committing 8 errors. Talia Persico was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 3 stolen bases for the Redskins. Kelly Kolotka went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a stolen base while Abbey Dergo was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Erica Gualandi was Morris' starting pitcher, giving up 12 hits in five-plus innings while finishing with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
"This was a sloppy game all around for us and we will have to pull it back together tomorrow against an undefeated Yorkville team," Morris coach Jen Bamonte said.

Joe Vallera had 2 of the Indians' 5 hits, finishing 2-for-3. Tyler Thorson finished 1-for-3 with a walk. All of Minooka's hits were singles.
Dakota Brown was Minooka's starting pitcher, giving up 2 earned runs in 2 innings of work to take the loss.
Joliet Catholic beat the Minooka sophomores 10-3. Steve Szymanski went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Indians. Steve Wittkamp was 2-for-3 with a double. Ayhan Ozgen got the win, giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in 2 innings of work.
Minooka's freshman team defeated Joliet Catholic 9-3. Tyler Desmargis was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple for the Indians, while Mitch Vogrin went 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.
Dominick Matriscano improved his record to 2-0, throwing 5 shutout innings.

The Coalers lost their first conference game of the season, falling to 5-6 and 1-1 in Interstate Eight West.
Brandon Tidaback had a single, double and 2 runs scored for Coal City, while Cody Onsen finished with 2 singles.
Brandon Wills was the losing pitcher, giving up 6 unearned runs. He gave up 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking nobody.
"This is a frustrating loss," Coal City coach Jerry McDowell said. "He had five errors on routine plays and then struck out seven times in the game, all with runners in scoring position. We need to make contact with two strikes."

Grant Park 4
GSW improved to 3-0 in the River Valley Conference, scoring 9 runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tyler Posing finished 3-for-4 with 3 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Colton Lenzie was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Brad Hansen went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Dane Sorensen got the win, improving his record to 3-1. He had 3 walks and 7 strikeouts while giving up 10 hits.
"This was a very tough game. Grant Park was ready to go and I thought they played well," GSW coach Jon Posing said. "I was happy with our guys continuing to battle and come back for the win. It's never easy on the road, and this was a prime example."

The Fighting Irish lost to fall to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Brian Bergeson was the losing pitcher. He went 4 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits and 6 walks while fanning 3.
At the plate, Patrick Anderson, Nate Coughlin and Jace Walsh had the lone hits.
"We struck out 11 times today," Seneca coach Kirk Houchin said. "They had a good pitcher on the mound in Alex Ramirez and he was in total control today."

Alec Frazier took the loss for the Trojans, his first of the season to drop his record to 4-1. He gave up 5 earned runs in 5 innings of work. He had 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Javier Montalvo went 2-for-3 for the Norsemen in the Little Ten Conference matchup. The losing pitcher was Ryan Mulligan. Newark is now 1-7-2.

Brian Henry got the win in the Redskins' Northern Illinois Big 12 East opener, giving up 2 earned runs in a complete-game effort. He gave up 7 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4.
Christian Niewinski finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Morris. Jake Capko went 2-for-3 with a triple while Grant Davis was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Morris has won five straight and is now 8-4 and 1-0 in the NIB 12 East.

The Redskins lost their Northern Illinois Big 12 East opener in eight innings.
Kyle Hill was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Redskins while Matt Bernickus finished 2-for-4. David Keller was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Brock Kukman got the start on the mound and threw 5 innings, striking out 2. Eric Robinson took the loss to fall to 2-1 on the year.
"Kukman was helped out by his defense, especially second baseman Matt Bernickus, who put on a fielding clinic with 5 assists and 2 putouts," Morris coach Ray Burgess said.
GIRLS SOCCER

Morris 1
Leslie Claire had the Redskins' lone goal 41 seconds into the second half, with Ashley Tapia getting the assist.
Caroline Riccolo had 14 saves for Morris.
"The first half we were very timid and not attacking at all. We were chasing them and they were beating us to a lot of balls. We had a lapse for about five minutes where we really lost the game," Morris coach Jeff Hunt said. "At halftime we really had a heart to heart talk and I told them to come out and play with some pride in themselves. I felt we played a much better second half with the quick goal off the start and had much more back and forth play."
TRACK
Minooka girls at Plainfield North
Plainfield North defeated Minooka 75-71 in a dual meet, with the Indians winning eight events.
Haley Renison, Haley McNamara, Devin Doran and Laura Simon won the 4-800-meter relay (10:20.9).
Lucia Rossi won the 300-meter hurdles (49.5), while Mariah Divis finished first in the pole vault (7-6). Kaitlin Hoy won the 1600-meter run and Bethany Bachmann won the 200-meter dash (28.1), while Autumn Powell took first in the shot put (35-11.5).
Kaitlyn Chetney won the 3200-meter run (12:44.8) and Marissa Post took first in the shot put (2:33).
Minooka's JV team beat Plainfield North 105-27.
