DeKALB – On Jan. 22, students in the art programs at DeKalb and Sycamore high schools met with their teachers at Brian Bemis Toyota Scion for the third annual Scion painting challenge.
Each school was provided a Scion xB to paint, paintbrushes and other art supplies. The teams had seven hours to take their rough sketches and create a motorized work of art.
The theme for the challenge, selected by Brian Bemis employees, was "School Pride." The schools were advised of the theme in advance to help them create their designs.
After the event, the decorated cars were displayed in the dealership's showroom for two weeks while students, parents, school staff and Bemis customers cast their votes to determine the winner. At the end of the voting period, the votes were counted, and Sycamore was declared victorious.
The Sycamore High Art Department received $750, and DeKalb High Art Department received $250.
