STERLING – Starting next week, Slim-n-Hank’s won’t be quite so slim.

Ross Thuente, owner of Slim-n-Hank’s in Sterling, announced Thursday he had acquired Varga’s Collision Center in Dixon.

The new location will be open for business on Monday, Jan. 3.

Thuente employs 18 people at his Sterling store, 1409 W. Fourth St. He said he would retain the 10 employees of Varga’s, 720 N. Galena Ave., Dixon.

Thuente, who has worked in the collision repair industry all of his life, bought Slim-n-Hank’s in 2003 from his father, who had opened the business in 1962.

In a news release, Thuente said he is looking forward to the opportunities the Dixon store will present.

“The second location will help us better meet the needs of the consumers in our tri-county area,” Thuente said. “Not only will we be able to serve more customers, but we offer them another convenient location for high-quality collision repair.”

Varga’s was owned by John and Nancy Varga.

“The two companies have a lot of similarities,” John Varga said in the news release, “and that was important to us as we passed the torch. We’re both family owned for over 40 years, active in our communities, and we focus on strong customer service as well as quality and safe repairs.

“Our customers and our employees will remain in good hands.”
