Jean Canfield

CHANA – Jean Canfield, 81, lifelong Chana area resident, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Ogle County Hospice Serenity Home, Oregon.

Jean was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Rochelle, the daughter of Frank and Alice (Canfield) Langholf. She married Russell Canfield on July 20, 1946, in Chana.

Jean was a graduate of Ashton High School and farmed with her husband for many years after their marriage. She was a member of Chana United Methodist Church, the UMW of the church, and Chana Mothers' Club and Garden Club. Jean enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, refinishing furniture, and gardening. 

Survivors include her husband, Russell of Chana; sons, Dennis Canfield and Dwight (Ruth) Canfield, both of Chana; daughter, Nancy (Michael) McPherson of Grayslake; brothers, Glenn (Joyce) Langholf of Dixon and Bruce (Julie) Langholf of Franklin Grove; sisters, Marilyn (Cecil) Toler of Dongola, Karen Groenhagen of Lawrence, Kan., and Evelyn Grap of California; grandchildren, Amy, Mandy, Dustin, Michael, Derek and Darren; and great-grandchildren: Jack, Joey, Nadine, Emma, Carson, and Macy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marie Schier; and brother, Frances Langholf.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chana United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rich Fassig officiating. Burial is at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Chana. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements were completed by Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.

Memorials have been established to Chana United Methodist Church and Ogle County Hospice.
