Newman completes Dixon-Sterling sweep

Experience paid off for the Newman boys tennis team Friday afternoon, when the senior-laden Comets swept sophomore-led Dixon 9-0 at the Emma Hubbs Tennis Courts.

Seniors Dylon Busser (No. 1), Luke Stover (2), Evan Knack (4) and Ryan Sztochmal (6) won their singles matches by a combined set score of 48-11. The Comets also got singles wins from sophomore Anthony Petrasko (3) and freshman John Hermes (5).

The most competitive match came at No. 2 doubles, where Knack and another senior, Anthony Sterk, outlasted Dixon's James Huffstuttler and Joel Kipping 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-3. The Newman teams of Busser and Stover, and Hermes and Alex Knack, also won.

The win, coupled with Newman's 7-2 decision over Sterling on April 9, gives the Comets (11-2) a sweep against the two schools for the first time in team history.
