POLO – Robert “Bob” L. Millhouse, 82, of Polo, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his farm near Polo.

Bob was born April 2, 1926, in Sterling, the son of Glenn and Esther (Shaible) Millhouse. He graduated from Milledgeville High School and then joined the Marine Corps. After Bob served his country, he went to auto body, fender, and auto alignment schools. He married Anna M. Allen on Jan. 24, 1949, in Milledgeville. Bob farmed in the Milledgeville-Polo area for 29 years. Along with raising hogs, he also worked in construction and was employed by many contractors including Blair, Cord, Johnson, and Cheeseman-Harn. His work included many inventions. One year after retirement, he went back into construction with his brother, Dick.

After retiring, Bob’s hobbies included building and flying his ultralight airplane. He was a member of the Illowa Sport Flyers Club. He also enjoyed rebuilding and restoring tractors and lawn mowers, building an all-electric truck , and hot air ballooning. Bob was a member of Milledgeville Brethren Church, and attended EUM Brick Church. Most important to him were his family, whom he prayed for daily. He not only practiced his faith, he lived it.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Blenda (Barry) Williams of Dixon and Karen (John) Hiscox of Dundas, Minn.; one son, Allen (Jill) Millhouse of Mount Morris; one foster son, Lavorn (Marilyn) Ohlwine of Roscoe; one brother, Richard (Jan) Millhouse of Sterling; three stepsisters, Norma (Bill) Peters and Alberta (Mike) Newton, both of Milledgeville, and Marlene Corbage of Glenview; four grandchildren, Jen (Mike) Hansen of Rochester, Minn., Rebecca (Rick) Heuerman of Aurora, Chris Hiscox of Milwaukee, and Jacob Millhouse of Mount Morris; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Charlotte Wolf and Betty Deets; one stepbrother, Ronald Peters; two brothers-in-law, Brice Wolf and Gail Deets; one nephew, Gerald Deets; and one grandnephew, Cody Meckstroth.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Polo Family Funeral Home with Jerry Martz officiating. Burial is at South Elkhorn Cemetery, rural Polo.

Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center research fund.
