A Northern Illinois University student was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct for falsely telling police that someone tried to rob him, the DeKalb Police Department said. Thomas G. Chemler, 19, of DeKalb told police a man approached him demanding money on the night of Oct. 20 while he was in the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road. Chemler reportedly said he showed his would-be attacker a knife, and the man ran away. Chemler was reinterviewed Thursday and reportedly told police he made up the story because he was tired and bored. Disorderly conduct is a Class 4 felony.
