Metra Rock Island train riders will have more options, including new early morning trains and additional express service beginning Feb. 1.

A new Chicago-bound Rock Island Line train will depart at 4:30 a.m. from Joliet.

That train line was popular with construction workers that worked downtown pre-COVID, a press release from Metra states.

Another Chicago-bound morning train will depart Joliet at 7:30 and make all stops until the Tinley Park/80th Avenue Station, and then operate as an express to 35th Street Station before continuing to LaSalle Street Station.

Metra also added an evening Joliet-bound train from LaSalle Street station that departs at 4:25, express to Tinley Park/80th Avenue Station, then making local stops. A new morning Joliet-bound train will leave LaSalle Street Station at 6:10 and arrive in Joliet at 7:20 a.m., making all stops along the mainline.
