Joliet Public Schools District 86 announced it will close and cancel classes and Joliet Township High School will go remote on Wednesday due to the extremely cold weather expected to hit the area.
District 86 said it will be closed and hold no classes or after-school activities on Wednesday, according to a message sent to parents and families.
The district said it will make up the lost day on June 1.
JTHS District 204 will utilize an emergency e-learning day for students and staff Wednesday due to the cold. Students will complete assignments online and staff will work from home.

The National Weather Service warned of hazardous weather for Tuesday and Wednesday for the Chicago area due to sub-zero wind chills through Wednesday night.
On Wednesday morning, dangerously cold wind chills of 20 degrees below zero to nearly 30 degrees below zero are expected, the NWS said.
The NWS added that the cold weather risk will likely abate on Thursday, but there is also a chance for some snowfall that day.
