A 26-year-old man was shot in the head and killed in Joliet Township, police said.

About 1:30 a.m. Friday, Will County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1500 block of Maple Road in Joliet Township for a complaint of shots fired, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.

“Once deputies arrived on-scene, they located a male subject, bleeding from the head from a gunshot wound,” police said.

Deputies attempted to render aid, and an emergency crew took the man to a hospital, police said.

The Will County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Leelinn Fox of Joliet. He was pronounced dead about 4 a.m. Friday at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Deputies learned of a party at the residence that consisted of friends and family, police said. About 20 to 25 people attended the party, police said. When deputies arrived, there were only five people at the scene.

The sheriff’s office has received “little cooperation from the individuals that remained at the residence,” police said.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer did not provide further details on the incident on Friday.

“The sheriff’s investigation division is actively working this case as it remains in its early stages,” Hoffmeyer said.

The sheriff’s office has not identified all the people who may have been at the residence where the shooting occurred, she said.
