Will County to host electronics, hazardous waste drop-off events

Attendees can also order and pick up rain barrels which are used for water re-use

Will County residents will have a chance to properly dispose of household electronics and hazardous waste items at upcoming drop-off events.

The Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division will host drop-off events in Joliet on April 9 and Bolingbrook on May 14, according to a news release.

Both events will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’re proud to host these events to ensure that unwanted materials do not end up in landfills,” Joan O’Keefe, Will County’s environmental educator, said in a statement. “We welcome all residents to review what events are eligible for drop-off and set an appointment online.”

Each event will only take appointments to ensure all attendees can take advantage of the service.

Will County has a full list of items eligible for drop off and details on event registration at willcountygreen.com. Residents can find a list of permanent electronic waste drop-off sites online.

The county also is promoting the use of rain barrels for water re-use. Each of the county’s drop-off events will serve as a pick-up location for preordered ran barrels.

“Rain barrels help homeowners conserve rainwater for gardening and watering trees and shrubs,” O’Keefe said in a statement. “These events serve as an excellent opportunity for purchasing a pre-ordered rain barrel without additional delivery fees.”

Those wishing to attend can preorder a rain barrel online and specify which event they will be picked up at by visiting upcycle-products.com/il-programs/wce.
