Providence Catholic continued one long track and field tradition in the pole vault and had a huge performance in the shot put on Friday at the IHSA 2A State Track & Field finals. Sophomore Natalie Papes placed seventh in the pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 10¾ inches. The Celtics have a long tradition of medaling at the state meet in this event, with Sam Spencer winning in 2019.

The IHSA Board of Directors voted Wednesday to add state finals competitions in boys lacrosse and boys volleyball. Progress made through the COVID-19 pandemic will make it possible for more travel under IDPH guidelines, meaning those sports will get their state tournaments like other sports.
