The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of northern Illinois, including Will County and southeastern DuPage County.
The watch is in effect until midnight.
Residents should look out for large size hail - possibly up to the size of apples - and wind speeds gusting up to 75 mph, the NWS said.
