Police: Shooter who injured Dixon couple arrested after 13-month investigation

DIXON – A Rockford man is charged with attempted murder and two other felonies in a 13-month-old shooting in which two people were injured.

Anthony J. Wilbourn, 18, is charged with six counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in the incident that happened March 18, 2020, Dixon police said in a Facebook post Friday.

Wilbourn is in Stateville prison, serving 4 years for attempted aggravated battery with a firearm in Winnebago County. He was arrested in mid-July, and pleaded guilty in Winnebago County Court on Dec. 22.

The Dixon shooting happened around 3:44 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Fourth Street, where a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were struck by gunfire and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was hit in the left arm, she was hit in the left thigh.

The house also was struck by multiple rounds, police said.

Wilbourn faces 31 years to life for the most serious charge, and if convicted, must serve 85%.

Charges were filed in Lee County Circuit Court on March 30, and bail was set at $500,000.
