Bustos, patient advocate to converse on Twitter Spaces

U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-East Moline

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos will join prominent patient advocate Peter Morley for a live Twitter Spaces conversation at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at @Repcheri about the environmental and social factors that affect health, often called the social determinants of health. Morley is a two-time cancer survivor and disabled patient advocate who lives with more than 10 pre-existing conditions, including Lupus.

In July, Bustos founded the bipartisan Congressional Social Determinants of Health Caucus, which is focused on the persistent social factors that harm long-term health. Bustos has long been a champion for health, including her bipartisan Social Determinants Accelerator Act which would create a federal grant program to empower states and local governments to tackle persistent economic and social conditions — like limited access to health care providers, stable housing, reliable transportation and healthy foods — that often hinder individual health.
