Summer Lawn Care Tips

Warm sunshine, backyard cookouts and days at the pool. Summertime is full of fun activities!

But after the first wave of spring lawncare, summer is a crucial time to manage your landscape. A well-maintained lawn always improves the look of your property and gives you something to be proud of.

Whether you tackle your own yard work or hire a lawn care service, here are some important guidelines to remember to maintain a vibrant, healthy lawn.

  • Cut regularly. Summer weather can be unpredictable with storms, and a lot of water can cause your grass and bushes to grow pretty fast. Regular trimming and mowing the lawn – about once per week – is a good schedule for regular maintenance.
  • Water minimally. If the rains aren’t as frequent, you’ll need to water your lawn and foliage to keep them thriving. First, test the soil by sticking a screwdriver into the ground. If it goes in easily, your lawn isn’t fully dried out yet, so you won’t need to add much water. If the grass starts to wilt or dull out, then you’ll need to water more frequently.
  • Use the right weed control. Pulling weeds by hand can be a chore (and potentially dangerous due to allergies, insects and even poison ivy) and letting them grow is never a good idea. During the summer months, you can cover the weeded area with any number of weed killers. Just make sure to spray regularly, usually after mowing the lawn. Use a grass-safe weed killer so that you don’t damage the lawn itself.

These are just a few basic things to consider when caring for your lawn this summer. For more helpful information and lawn care tips, visit our website or call us at 815-288-7841.
